Top 10 Creative Themes for Kids' Birthday Invitations

The invitation is the first hint of the fun to come, so a creative theme can make your child's birthday party even more exciting for them and their friends. Here are ten kids' birthday invitation themes that always work, with ideas for carrying each one into the party.

10 creative themes for kids' birthday invitations

1. Superhero extravaganza

Turn your child into their favourite hero for the day with bold comic-book graphics and bright colours. Ask guests to come dressed as superheroes too.

2. Princess fairytale

Think tiaras, castles, sparkles and elegant fonts. A princess theme adds a touch of magic for the little royal in your life.

3. Dinosaur adventure

Take guests back to the Jurassic era with playful dinosaur illustrations, and mention a dino dig or fossil hunt at the party.

4. Pirate treasure hunt

Ahoy! Design the invitation like an old treasure map with pirate flags and a treasure chest, and hide a real treasure hunt at the party.

5. Under the sea

Colourful fish, mermaids, sea creatures and waves make a cheerful ocean theme. Your little mermaids and mermen will love it.

6. Space odyssey

Blast off with planets, rockets and stars in a space-themed invitation, and ask guests to dress as astronauts.

7. Jungle safari

Lush greenery, lions, elephants, monkeys and a pair of binoculars set the stage for a wild adventure, whether indoors or on the lawn.

8. Magical wizardry

Spellbooks, wands, owls and mystical symbols create a world of magic that young wizards will be thrilled to step into.

9. Farm fun

Barnyard animals, tractors and hay bales give a rustic, down-to-earth charm that toddlers especially enjoy.

10. Outer space aliens

Quirky aliens and UFOs make for a playful, unusual design. Pair it with green snacks and glow-in-the-dark decorations.

Tips to make the theme work

• Carry it through: use the same theme for decorations, activities, return gifts and even the cake.
• Add a photo: a picture of the birthday child in the theme costume makes the invite extra special.
• Keep details clear: child's name and age, date, time, venue and RSVP number should be easy to read on a phone.
• Try a video: an animated invitation with music gets kids excited before the party.

Besides these ideas, we also have designs based on favourite characters such as Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig, Mickey Mouse, Unicorn and Minecraft. If your child's dream theme isn't in the collection, our designers can create a custom design from scratch.
