6 Tips for Your Christian Wedding Invitation
Six tips for a Christian wedding invitation – Bible verse, blue and white colours, florals, symbols and matching your wedding traditions.
A Christian wedding in India can be a church ceremony with a white gown, a Kerala wedding with a white saree and the minnu, or a Goan celebration with a lively reception. Whatever your traditions, the invitation should reflect your faith and your style. These six tips will help you design a Christian wedding invitation that feels right for your wedding.
1. Add a Bible verse
Faith is at the heart of a Christian wedding, and a Bible verse is a beautiful way to open your invitation. Choose a verse about love, marriage or unity, or simply your favourite verse as a couple, and place it at the top as a header in a bold, clear font. Popular choices include:
"Love is patient, love is kind." – 1 Corinthians 13:4
"Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." – Mark 10:9
"And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." – Colossians 3:14
2. Add a touch of blue
Blue looks elegant on a wedding invitation, especially royal blue paired with gold or white. It also ties in with the popular wedding custom of "something blue", a symbol of faithfulness and love. A blue border, lettering or floral accent adds a touch of grandeur without overpowering the design.
3. Use white and pastels
White stands for purity and new beginnings, and many Christian brides carry it through the gown or saree, the flowers and the church décor. Echo it in your invitation with a white or soft pastel background – ivory, blush, mint or powder blue – and names in gold lettering for a royal finish. Soft colours also keep the text easy to read on a phone.
4. Include floral designs
Flowers play a big part in Christian weddings. White roses stand for purity and true love, and lilies and stephanotis are traditional wedding flowers. Watercolour or modern floral artwork can form the background, frame the border or be the centrepiece of the design. Browse our floral invitation designs for ideas.
5. Add Christian symbols
Symbols are optional, but a few well-chosen ones make the invitation instantly recognisable. The cross is the most common, and doves, a church, wedding rings, angels or a rosary also work well. Blend them gently into the design rather than making them the only focus. A couple's monogram or wedding logo can sit alongside them.
6. Match the invitation to your wedding
If you are having a Kerala Christian wedding with a white saree, a Mangalorean or Goan celebration, or a North Indian church wedding, let the invitation reflect that rather than copying a Western template. Include the church service and the reception with their own times and venues, and use wording in English, Malayalam, Tamil or Konkani if your family prefers it.
Don't forget the practical details
- Names of the bride and groom, and of the parents who are inviting.
- Date, time and name of the church for the Holy Matrimony service.
- Reception venue and time.
- A Google Maps link or QR code, and an RSVP contact number.
