Griha Pravesh Invitation Etiquette: Dos and Don'ts
Simple dos and don'ts for your Griha Pravesh invitation: timing, traditional symbols, message, details and design.
A Griha Pravesh is a joyful occasion filled with rituals, blessings and the warmth of family and friends. The invitation is the first thing your guests see, so it should respect tradition and share every detail clearly. Here are the simple dos and don'ts to follow.
Dos
1. Start early
Once the muhurat is fixed with your family pandit, begin the invitation right away. Guests, especially relatives travelling from another city, need time to plan. Sending the invite two to three weeks before the ceremony is a good rule.
2. Use traditional symbols with respect
Symbols such as Lord Ganesha, the kalash, swastik, mango leaves (toran), diyas and rangoli carry deep meaning for a housewarming. Choose the ones that matter to your family and let them sit naturally in the design, not squeezed into a corner.
3. Personalise the message
Write a warm message that shares your joy and welcomes guests to your new home. You can include a traditional blessing, a line about your family's new beginning, or the names of elders inviting the guests. If your family prefers a regional language, our designers can add the wording in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil and other languages; you simply send the text.
4. Give clear, complete details
Mention the date, day, puja time (muhurat), any lunch or dinner timing, and the full address of the new home. A new address can be hard to find, so add a Google Map location or QR code (a ₹99 add-on) to help guests reach without calling you on the day.
Don'ts
1. Don't overcrowd the design
Too many images, borders and lines of text make an invite hard to read, especially on a phone screen. Keep the layout clean, the font size readable and the key details easy to spot.
2. Don't use inappropriate imagery
Respect religious and cultural sensitivities. Avoid using sacred symbols as mere decoration, and don't mix in images that feel out of place for a puja.
3. Don't delay sending the invitations
Last-minute invites can make guests feel like an afterthought. Share the invitation personally on WhatsApp with a short note, and follow up with a reminder a day or two before the ceremony.
4. Don't forget the finishing touches
Double-check spellings of names, the date and the address before you approve the final design. A small mistake is easy to fix at draft stage, and your revisions are included.
